Suddenly

I was thinking of the word 'suddenly' yesterday during church. I find that the the moment it is used, its meaning is destroyed.
For example:
Bill studied the test in front of him. Suddenly a gust of wind swept through the room and all the papers when flying.
'Suddenly' warned you something was going to happen, so it wasn't really all that sudden. You were prepared for something. 'Suddenly' halted the movement.
Example 2: Suzy was adjusting her IPOD when an anvil fell on her.
Oh my gosh! An anvil just fell on her! Out of the blue! Now that is shocking. She sure didn't see that coming, did she? And guess what, neither did the reader. You might say it was so sudden that I didn't have time to write 'suddenly'.

English Language usage is a fickle thing subject to opinion. This was one of mine.
